BlackBerry Traffic 3.0

Did you know that you can have hands free voice guidance on your BlackBerry® smartphone thanks to the recently updated version of BlackBerry® Traffic? You read that right – BlackBerry Traffic 3.0 is here, and it now has voice guidance to help you get to your destination on time and stress-free!

For those of you who haven’t used this app before, BlackBerry Traffic is a free application which provides real time traffic information while suggesting the best routes based on that traffic data. On top of voice guidance, version 3.0 allows you to share your ETA (estimated time of arrival) with contacts before departing, avoid toll routes with alternate route ideas before leaving for your trip, and to invite your BlackBerry® Messenger contacts to discover BlackBerry Traffic 3.0.

Today I will be showing you two of my favorite features in BlackBerry Traffic 3.0. One keeps my eyes on the road at all times, the other keeps my friends and family from wondering where I am.

If you do not already have BlackBerry Traffic installed on your BlackBerry smartphone or you are using an older version (and haven’t been prompted to upgrade yet), you can scan the bar code below after opening the BlackBerry App World™ storefront (Menu > Scan a Barcode) or click here to install it. After BlackBerry Traffic 3.0 is installed you might be prompted to restart your BlackBerry smartphone to complete the installation process.

Note: BlackBerry Traffic 3.0 requires BlackBerry® Device Software version 5.0 later. To find out which version of BlackBerry Device Software you are using, click here.

After installing BlackBerry Traffic 3.0, look for the traffic light icon that can be found on your home screen or in the Downloads folder to launch the app.

Voice Guidance

Voice guidance provides stress-free navigation and allows you to travel hands free, with the option to have clear voice instructions come through a Bluetooth® headset, or through your device’s speaker or your vehicle’s sound system; the app even delivers turn-by-turn directions if you want them. In fact, you can make them as detailed as you like! Voice guidance is enabled by default, but if you’d like to review and modify the settings, complete the following steps:

1. Open BlackBerry Traffic 3.0 and press the Menu Key
2. Select “Options” followed by “Guidance Options”

  • Enable Voice Guidance – Enabled by default; uncheck the box to disable guidance
  • Include Street Names – Enabled by default; Here you can also choose between Standard Audio, Faster Download or Enhanced Audio, Louder and Clearer
  • Level of Assistance – Choose how detailed your trip navigation will be by selecting Low, Medium, or High

3. When finished, press the Back key to save the changes.
