Here’s a quick overview of how to mark prior messages as read, delete prior messages and jump to the top and bottom of your message list while using a BlackBerry Q10 smartphone.

Note: Depending on how your email account is set up, messages that are removed from your smartphone as a result of using the Delete Prior option will also be removed from your mailbox.

Step One – While viewing the Hub, tap and hold on a date banner and a menu will appear on the right.

2-ARROW   2-B

Step Two – Select your desired option, or tap and drag the area indicated by the green arrow to expand this menu as per the second screenshot.

3-ARROW   4

If you expand the menu you’ll also notice shortcut keys appear next to the following options:

  • Next – N (You can also use P for Previous)
  • To Top – T
  • To Bottom B
  • Delete Prior – Del

Don’t forget to take advantage of the context menu in the bottom left corner in case you’d like to manage a specific account as well! Very good write up. Steps worked like a charm. But my emails did not get deleted. I was prompted with the option to delete all prior or cancel. I chose delete yet nothing happened. I did a select more and delete them all.

How to resend a message or email Thanks

Where did the “u” shortcut key go? That was one of the most helpful. It allowed you to find unopened emails among hundreds of opened ones. Now you have to scroll through?

How do I delete multiple messages on the z10. I used to be able to hold the control key and scroll down to highlight multiple messages and then delete them all at once

    My Q10 can’t delete prior????

  • Martin Janssen

On the older BlackBerry I was asked whether to delete mails locally and/or in outlook. I am missing this feature on the Q10.

Normally I want to keep only a few mails on the BlackBerry, but most within Outlook. This does not seem to be possible. Now my BlackBerry overflows with hundreds of mails I have to store.

    Thanks, Martin

There are two “challenges” with reading emails:

“P” and “N” are reversed. Chronologically, “P” takes you to the next message and “N” takes you to the next received message.

Also, please give me back the ability to go to just the unread messages by hitting “U”. Occasionally I will have an unread message somewhere in the list. The only way to find it is to scroll up and down looking for it. Or I can simply mark all messages as read and hope it wasn’t important. Being able to hit “U” again (like it used to be) would be great.

I already have done this and it doesn’t seem to work on user name field of login screen. In all other situations, it works just fine.
