Adding a custom message to your BlackBerry smartphone lock screen

How-To

When my BlackBerry® smartphone is locked, the screen displays my name, a message, and my home phone number. This way, in the event someone finds my phone, they know what number to call so they can return it to me. In this blog post, I’m going to show you how to complete the owner’s information on your device so you can create your own custom message using the Message on Lock Screen feature.

If you have BlackBerry® Device Software 5.0.0.362 or above, a BlackBerry smartphone password must be specified and enabled before this information can be displayed. For help identifying your software and setting a password, check out our post how to identify BlackBerry Device Software versions followed by how to set a password on a BlackBerry smartphone.

Setting the Owner’s Information

The Message on Lock Screen feature has two text fields you can use to display your information. The first field is limited to one line of text, such as your name; the second field can contain multiple lines of text, allowing you to write a message and/or provide contact information. To create a custom message, follow the steps below for your BlackBerry smartphone:

BlackBerry® 6 & BlackBerry® 7 OS

1. From the Home screen or from within a folder, select “Options”
2. Select “Display” and then “Message on Lock Screen”
3. Enter the desired text into one or both available fields
4. Press the Menu key and select “Save”.

BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 and below

1. From the Home screen or from within a folder, select “Options”
2. Select “Owner” and enter the desired text into one or both available fields
3. Press the Menu key and select “Save”.
