Five Tip Friday – Traveling with a BlackBerry smartphone

Five Tip Friday

Having just attended the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, I wanted to share five useful apps to help you out whenever you are on a trip and have your BlackBerry® smartphone with you. I consider these apps essential whenever I travel, so if you haven’t tried them before, I highly recommend checking them out before your next adventure!

BlackBerry Travel

The next time you’re getting ready for a trip, consider installing BlackBerry® Travel on your BlackBerry smartphone – this app is designed to make it easier to plan, book, manage, and share your travel activities. You’ll be able to find deals on hotel and car rental options, or arrange for limo service to and from the airport. Also, you can get quick notifications if your flight’s delayed or cancelled, and find a new flight.

The BlackBerry Travel app includes features to help keep your travel plans in sync. Automatic trip scanning can scan your Messages application automatically, and exports all supported travel email messages to the BlackBerry Travel app.

If you would like to install BlackBerry Travel, scan the QR code below using the BlackBerry App World™ storefront (Menu > Scan Barcode) or visit the BlackBerry App World desktop storefront website.

Poynt

Poynt® is an location-based search app that is designed to let you find and connect with businesses, movies, restaurants, people, offers and events near you when you need them. Poynt is designed to help you locate local businesses, map directions, view show times and movie trailers or reserve a table at a local restaurant. I’ve been using Poynt lately to decide where I’d like to eat whenever I’m away from home, which has led me to some great new restaurants.

Poynt is available for the BlackBerry smartphone as well as the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet! One of my favorite features when using both versions of Poynt is pairing my BlackBerry PlayBook tablet with my BlackBerry smartphone to enable pushing calls, contacts and directions from one device to the other while using the Poynt app.

If you would like to install Poynt on your BlackBerry smartphone, scan the QR code below using BlackBerry App World (Menu > Scan a Barcode) or visit the BlackBerry App World desktop storefront website.

To install Poynt for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, while browsing BlackBerry App World, search for Poynt and select Install or visit the BlackBerry App World desktop storefront website.

BlackBerry Traffic

Ask any of my friends to describe me and one of the first things they’ll say is I get lost way too easily! Now imagine me in a different city – the second I leave my hotel parking lot, I’m lost! But since I’ve started using BlackBerry Traffic to help me find my way around, this isn’t the case anymore. Simply put, this app provides real time traffic information with optional voice guidance and – one of my favorite features – an estimated time of arrival that you can share with friends before departing.

I could go on and on describing how awesome BlackBerry Traffic is, but instead of doing that, here’s a link to download BlackBerry Traffic so you can try it out yourself and fall in love with the app like I have! Scan the QR code below using BlackBerry App World (Menu > Scan Barcode) or visit the BlackBerry App World desktop storefront website.

Foursquare

A great app to help you connect with friends in the same area, find new places to visit, and save money with specials on various products and services is foursquare for BlackBerry smartphones. Having just travelled with several colleagues from work, foursquare allowed me to see what each of them were up to and, if I was in the same area, meet up with them to grab a quick bite to eat.

One of the features I really like is Lists, which are user-created and contain suggestions on places to go and tips you should take advantage of. On top of that, a built-in feature I like is being able to see the movie times if I check out some of the theatres around me. Foursquare isn’t just good when you are traveling; it’s also a great way to explore your hometown and learn about new places!

If you would like to install foursquare, scan the QR code below using BlackBerry App World (Menu > Scan Barcode) or click here to the visit the BlackBerry App World desktop storefront website.

XE Currency

With the XE Currency converter for BlackBerry smartphones by XE.com Inc., you can convert 180+ currencies on-the-go. This currency calculator is simple, powerful, and free! Since it contains live up-to-the-minute rates, this is a must-have app if you are constantly checking conversion rates online.

If you would like to install XE Currency converter for your BlackBerry smartphone, scan the QR code below using BlackBerry App World (Menu > Scan Barcode) or visit the BlackBerry App World desktop storefront website.
