BlackBerry 6 – Get to know Universal Search

How-To

With the release of BlackBerry® 6, several new features have been added to help you get the most out of your BlackBerry® smartphone. One of these features is called Universal Search, which will change the way you look for information on your BlackBerry smartphone!

Universal Search allows you to search anything on your BlackBerry smartphone, in addition to searching the Internet as well. It indexes all of your messages, calendar entries, and social networking applications so you can quickly find the information you need. Universal Search even searches the help files in case you were looking for some help with a question you might have.

To take advantage of Universal Search, simply tap or click on the magnifying glass icon that’s displayed on the top right corner of your BlackBerry Home Screen. From there, all you need to do is just type whatever you’re looking for. From the Home Screen you can also just start typing in your search and the Universal Search application will immediately open. You’ll see that as you type, Universal Search starts narrowing down the results for you automatically.

For example, as I type ‘ring tones’, BlackBerry 6 shows me the results that you see below. All I need to do now is tap or click the Ring Tones icon, and I’m able to quickly customize them.

You might be wondering why Help Search Results has (4) listed. The number – 4 in this case – corresponds with the number of entries related to ring tones within the help file on your BlackBerry smartphone. As illustrated in the following screenshot, clicking Search Results (4) will display the various entries regarding ring tones that are contained in the BlackBerry smartphone help files.
