How to download a new application to your BlackBerry® smartphone using QR codes provided in the BlackBerry App World™ desktop storefront.

In my previous post, I provided an overview of how to install an application on your BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry App World client. Today, I’m going to demonstrate how easy it is to get a new application for your BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry App World™ desktop storefront and QR codes.

The BlackBerry App World desktop storefront is a web-based portal that allows you to skim through thousands of applications, and a QR code allows you download an application from the website using your BlackBerry smartphone. A QR code is a unique 2D barcode that allows you to open a link on your smartphone by using your camera to take a picture of it.

To begin, you must have the BlackBerry App World application installed on your BlackBerry smartphone. If you do not currently have it installed, visit this website to install it.

Once the BlackBerry App World application is installed, you’ll be able to use the QR code feature. To do so, simply find an application you’d like to use while browsing the BlackBerry App World desktop storefront and click the application name to view more details about it. On the application details page towards the bottom right, you will see a QR code similar to the following:

All you need to do at this point is scan the QR code using the following steps:

Open BlackBerry App World on your BlackBerry smartphone

Press the Menu key and select Scan A Barcode

Scan the QR Code that appears on the BlackBerry App World website using your BlackBerry smartphone

The application installation screen will now appear on your BlackBerry smartphone allowing you install the application.

And just like that, you have installed a new application!

Have you used QR codes to download a new application before? How did you find the experience? Please leave a comment and let me know.
